Musings on life, games, and code

About me

Hello, I’m Payton.

I am a software developer living in New England in the US. I currently work for Automattic, home of WordPress.com, WooCommerce, Tumblr, Simplenote, Pocket Casts, Day One, Gravatar, and a bunch of other cool projects.

🧑‍💻 I am a passionate advocate of Open Source and I have several projects of my own which people seem to like, notably grepdef, gitnews, phpcs-variable-analysis, and phpcs-changed. You can check out my Github profile for more.

👾 Making video games is what drew me to writing code in the first place and I have recently started to fulfil that dream. You can look at my itch.io page to see what I’ve been up to.

🍵 For many years I worked for a tea company and had the opportunity to travel around Asia to learn about the tea culture of the countries that produce it. I have a separate blog where I write about tea and those experiences.

☯️ I’ve studied tàijí (Tai Chi) since 2002 and I sometimes teach.

⚔️ I believe that tabletop roleplaying games like Dungeons and Dragons are the most essential social activity, and I kept a blog for two of my longer running campaigns: Amari’s Armada and An Unfinished War. I am a Forever DM and I enjoy writing one-shot adventures in addition to my ongoing campaigns.
